Big Bad Voodoo Daddy

A celebration that started 33 years ago on the top deck of our hospital parking structure has grown to become a signature event of our community, attracting more than 700 guests annually to the Pasadena Convention Center Ballroom.  Our black-tie evening is designed to recognize our donors and supporters of USC Arcadia Hospital throughout the years.

This year’s honoree is our beloved Dr. K. Henier Vogelbach! Heiner began his career as the Director of Cardiology at St. Luke Hospital in 1978. After founding Southern California Heart Specialists, he started practicing at Methodist Hospital more than 30 years ago. Heiner had the privilege to serve as Director of Cardiology and Chief of the Medical Section at Methodist Hospital, now known as USC Arcadia Hospital, and has been a Board member of the Foundation for more than 12 years.

The Arcadia former Mayor, city councilor Paul Cheng expressed his gratitude to USC Arcadia Hospital for its outstanding contributions to the people and community of Arcadia, and thanked the medical staff for their unremitting efforts in providing high-quality medical services to the people of Arcadia.

He  also pointed out that  Crystal Ball  is an event that our community looks forward to every year. It is not only a charity fundraising event, but also an opportunity to show our long-term support and gratitude to USC Arcadia Hospital. This year, we are recognizing outstanding contributors to USC Arcadia Hospital and are particularly honored to honor Dr. Henier Vogelbach. He has been a dedicated cardiologist for many years to our hospital and community and was instrumental in the success of this event. In addition, we also had a musical performance from Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, adding even more excitement to the evening.

Heiner immediately got very involved in fundraising with USC Arcadia Hospital Foundation. He was acutely aware that the hospital needed to receive the philanthropic support of the local community to become a cutting-edge facility. Heiner considers the hospital to be his “home away from home.” He has either chaired or co-chaired the Crystal Ball event three times and helped in raising critical funds for the technical innovations at the Cath Lab and other hospital departments. Heiner greatly benefited from the new technology himself when a prompt cancer diagnosis saved his life 12 years ago. The family has supported the hospital over the years, always keeping in mind that “you never know when you may end up needing these services.”

Heiner is extremely touched to be the first physician to be named as the Crystal Ball Honoree. As a cardiologist and loyal USC Trojan, he is very excited to raise funds for a second state-of-the-art Bi-Plane Imaging System for the hospital. Heiner is grateful for the outstanding support of colleagues, nurses, friends, and so many patients for this event.
