Irvine Police Department Awarded $75,000 Grant to Deter Alcohol-Related Crime

Irvine– The Irvine Police Department will utilize grant funds from the California Department of Alcohol Beverage Control (ABC) to reduce alcohol-related crime in Irvine.

Increased enforcement will address alcoholic beverage sales to minors, illegal solicitations of alcohol, and other criminal activity, such as selling and possessing illegal drugs. Our Youth Services Unit will focus on deterring underage consumption and possession of alcohol.  Community outreach and education to our establishments that sell alcohol will be vital to the success of this program.

This grant strengthens our partnership with ABC and allows our department to benefit from their expertise in alcoholic beverage laws with the goal of reducing alcohol-related harm in Irvine.

“We appreciate our great partnership with ABC,” Chief Michael Kent said. “The Irvine Police Department is committed to reducing alcohol-related crime and protecting minors from the dangers of underage alcohol consumption.”

The Alcohol Policing Partnership (APP) was created in 1995 to strengthen the collaborative efforts between ABC and law enforcement. We thank ABC for awarding our department with these funds.
