Stocks close higher to kick off week of corporate earnings reports
Wall Street stocks edged higher on Monday in anticipation of the release of a host of corporate earnings reports later this week.
The market also shrugged off a rise in Treasury yields.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.93% to 33,984.54.
The S&P 500 edged up 1.06% to 4,373.63 while the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite climbed 1.2% to close at 13,567.98.
Investors are currently awaiting for the release of new corporate earnings reports as up to 11% of the companies that make up the S&P 500 are set to report earnings.
Last week major banks reported better than expected earnings, demonstrating the U.S. economy’s resilience in the face of high interest rates and persistent inflation.
