(SACRAMENTO, CA) – Today, the League of California Cities Asian Pacific Islander Caucus announced that Senator Dave Min (D-Irvine) has been recognized with the organization’s Vincent Chin Civil Rights Champion Award. Named in memory of the late Vincent Chin, the award seeks to honor his memory and the movement to protect marginalized communities from acts of hate. Senator Min is the second recipient to be recognized since the API Caucus created the award in the wake of the anti-Asian hate sentiments and attacks that surged during the COVID-19 pandemic. The inaugural awardee was Congresswoman Judy Chu in 2020.

“Thank you to the League of California Cities API Caucus and to the Caucus President, Vice Mayor Manalo, for this incredible honor. I am so proud to receive the Vincent Chin Civil Rights Champion Award and follow in the footsteps of a civil rights trail blazer, Congresswoman Judy Chu. The importance of representation cannot be overstated,” said Senator Dave Min. “At a time when our communities are literally under attack, it is our shared responsibility as elected officials – at all levels of government – to address both the root causes and consequences to stop this crisis of hate. Again, thank you to the League of California Cities API Caucus for this special award, and thank you for all you do on behalf of our API communities in cities big and small across the State of California.”

“This recognition is a testament to Senator Min’s unwavering dedication to advocating for marginalized communities and combating hate-driven actions. By acknowledging his outstanding efforts, we not only honor the legacy of Vincent Chin but also reinforce our commitment to safeguarding the rights and dignity of all individuals. As the Caucus Chair, I am proud to see this award bestowed upon a leader who shares our commitment to equality and justice. Together, we will continue to stand up against hate and work tirelessly to build a more inclusive and harmonious society,” stated API Caucus President and Daly City Vice Mayor Juslyn Manalo.
