WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the National Asian/Pacific Islander American Chamber of Commerce and Entrepreneurship (National ACE) and other national Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) community leaders met with President Biden and Vice President Harris at the White House to discuss pressing issues, including anti-Asian hate, the economic recovery, immigration, and voting rights.
National ACE’s President and CEO, Chiling Tong, briefed the President on how the Biden-Harris Administration’s policies have helped AANHPI small business owners fight the Covid-19 pandemic and feel more protected amidst the rise in AAPI discrimination.
Ms. Tong applauded the President’s commitment to move forward with a bipartisan infrastructure bill. She also discussed the positive impact of the American Rescue Plan for AANHPI-owned businesses. The extension of the Paycheck Protection Program and the accessibility of long term, low interest Economic Injury Disaster Loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration have played a vital role in allowing countless businesses to keep their doors open and operate safely.
Ms. Tong thanked President Biden for appointing several members of the AANHPI community to senior roles at the White House, including Erika Moritsugu as Deputy Assistant to the President and Asian American and Pacific Islander Senior Liaison, Neera Tanden as a Senior Advisor to the President, Howard Ou as an Associate Director at the White House Office of Public Engagement and Krystal Ka’ai as Executive Director of the White House Initiative on Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders (WHIAANHPI).
“Our business community continues to face many challenges, such as access to capital, language barriers, and reliable broadband. National ACE continues to work to help rebuild our economy, generate jobs, and create prosperity. We look forward to a continued public/private collaboration with the White House to ensure more AAPI businesses recover from this pandemic and get back on their feet,” said Chiling Tong.
