Superintendent Austin Beutner Announces the Reopening of Playgrounds
At All Elementary Schools and Early Education Centers

LOS ANGELES (April 27, 2021) – Superintendent Austin Beutner announced today that playgrounds will reopen beginning Monday, May 3rd, at all Los Angeles Unified elementary schools and early education centers.

Los Angeles Unified custodial staff will use electrostatic misters and approved disinfectant to regularly sanitize the playground equipment – the same procedure used to clean other frequently touched surfaces in schools. Only one cohort of students will be allowed to use the playground at any time, and students will be directed to wash their hands before and after using the equipment.

“Smiles all around,” Superintendent Beutner said. “The road to recovery includes the opportunity for youngsters to exercise and play outdoors in a way that is safe and appropriate. This is all part of our commitment to create the safest possible school environment.”
