Irvine Police Arrest Man for Attempted Murder

Irvine, Calif. – Irvine Police Department detectives on Saturday arrested an Irvine man on charges of attempted murder after an altercation that occurred Friday at San Marco Park in Irvine.

On Friday night just before midnight, officers responded to Hoag Hospital in Irvine in reference to a man who had been admitted with a stab wound to the neck. At that time, the victim was able to name the suspect. Detectives began their search, and around noon Saturday arrested Jonathan Fernandez, 22. Fernandez was arrested at a family member’s residence where he is known to stay on the 200 block of Veneto. He was booked into Orange County Jail.

During the altercation that occurred at approximately 10 or 10:30 p.m. Friday night, Fernandez stabbed the victim, with whom he was acquainted, in the neck and also beat him with a baseball bat. Fernandez fled the scene following the altercation. The victim was taken to Hoag Hospital, where he was treated and released.
