AWARD: Three $800 SCHOLARSHIPS

QUALIFICATION:
Chinese American Education Association is accepting applications for scholarships. Candidates must be seniors attending a high school located in Southern California, of ethnic Chinese heritage, in good academic standing, have strong leadership skills, have participated in a variety of extracurricular activities, and have provided services to the Chinese and /or other Asian American Communities. Candidates must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents.
SELECTION CRITERIA:
- A panel of impartial judges will evaluate applications based on a list of criteria weighted as follows:
Community Service 25% (Letters or certificates attached)
Personal Essay 20%
Academic Achievement 30% (Minimum GPA 3.0. Three years transcripts attached)
Leadership/Talents 25% (Documents Attached)
Entries that do not meet the published guidelines or are incomplete will be disqualified.
Candidates may choose to submit their entries either in English or in Chinese. All entries submitted in English must be typed. Entries submitted in Chinese, including the composition portion, may be typed or hand written.
The three winners will be notified before March 6th, 2017. If for whatever reasons a winner cannot accept the award, the scholarship will be awarded to the first runner-up.
HOW TO ENTER:
On one 8 ½ ” x 11” sheet of unlined white paper, write an essay, doubled-spaced, of no more than 250 words describing your leadership activities, extra-curricular activities and your community involvement with Chinese and/or Asian American communities. Discuss how your activities contribute to the betterment of Chinese Americans. Print and sign your full name on the bottom of your essay.
Applications and essays submitted in Chinese may be neatly handwritten. Print and sign your full name on the bottom of your essay.
Include two letters of recommendation, in English or Chinese, from someone involved with your school or community-based organization capable of expounding upon your leadership skills and community service work.
Submit a resume to show your leadership activities, extra-curricular activities and your community involvement with Chinese and Asian American communities.
Submit a copy of ONE of the following documents: birth certificate, passport, or green card.

Due date: Entries must be received by Feb. 24th, 2017. Late entries will be disqualified and missing documents will also cause disqualification.
Award Ceremony will be held in March 17, 2017. Winners will be informed about all details of the ceremony. CAEA will present certificates to winners. CAEA will invite elected officials (national, state, county and/or city levels) to attend the ceremony and the elected officials may also present certificates to winners.
