Pair Charged With Murder

Los Angeles — The stepsister of a woman found dead in August near Gorman and the stepsister’s boyfriend have been charged with her murder and with the kidnapping of her young children.

Twenty-two year old Britney Sue Humphrey and 27 year-old Joshua Aaron Robertson were charged in case BA449493.

Robertson is due to be arraigned in Department 30 at the Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice Center.  Prosecutors will ask that bail be set at two million dollars.  Humphrey is awaiting extradition following her arrest in Colorado.

Humphrey and Robertson are charged with killing Humphrey’s stepsister, Kimberly Harvill, on or about August 14, 2016.  Harvill’s body was discovered in a remote area of Gorman on August 14.  The complaint alleges Robertson personally and intentionally discharged a firearm, a handgun.  He is also charged with one count of possession of a firearm by a felon with two prior convictions.

The couple are also charged with kidnapping the murder victim’s three young children, ages five, three and two.  The children were found safe in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on August 24, 2016.  Humphrey and Robertson were arrested a day later in Colorado.

Deputy District Attorneys Deanne Castorena and Tal Kahana with the Child Abduction Unit are prosecuting the case.

If convicted, each defendant faces up to life in state prison.

The case remains under investigation by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
