LOS ANGELES(LASD)– The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Community Partnerships Bureau, Counterfeit and Piracy Enforcement (CAPE) Team, received information regarding the illegal sale of counterfeit branded “UL” hoverboards.  UL is a global independent safety science company which validates, tests, and certifies the safety of electronic products.  UL confirmed they currently have not safety tested or certified any electronic components of any hoverboard.

An investigation by CAPE Team investigators confirmed that a business operating under the name “Rollitech” in the City of Industry, was selling unauthorized “UL” listed hoverboards.  A search warrant was obtained for the location, and at approximately 10:00 a.m. this morning, deputies served the search warrant.

A search of the location revealed more than 4,000 counterfeit branded “UL” hoverboards with an approximate retail value of $1.5 million.  The counterfeit merchandise was seized pending further investigation.  No arrests have been made at this time.
