“This tragic and senseless act of violence on an innocent Metro passenger has shaken our community as thousands take the Metro daily as a form of transportation,” District Attorney Gascón said. “Our hearts go out to the victim’s family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time. These acts of violence have no place in our society and our office will continue to work to ensure that justice is served to those who commit these egregious crimes.”

Elliott Tramel Nowden (dob 05/06/78) has been charged with one count of murder, and one count of first-degree robbery of a transit passenger.

It also is alleged the crime was committed as a robbery-murder special circumstance, that the defendant personally used a deadly weapon, and that the victim was vulnerable during the commission of the crime.

Nowden’s arraignment is set for today in Dept. 30 of the Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice Center.

On April 22, 2024 at approximately 5 a.m., Nowden allegedly fatally stabbed a Los Angeles woman as she was riding a Metro train at the Universal Studios train platform.

Nowden was arrested by Los Angeles Police officers 30 minutes later near the intersection of Ventura Boulevard and Vineland Avenue in the city of Los Angeles.

The People are recommending that Nowden be held on no bail. If convicted as charged, he faces life in prison without the possibility of parole.

The case is being investigated by the Los Angeles Police Department.
