Wall Street ends mixed following CPI inflation data

Los Angeles —

Stocks closed mixed on Wednesday following the release of August’s Consumer Price Index report showing that inflation ticked upwards last month as a result of high gas prices, but the overall “core” measure remains on a slow downward trajectory.

At the end of trading, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.2% to 34,575.53.

The S&P 500 jumped 0.12% to 4,467.44 while the Nasdaq Composite gained 0.3% to 13,813.58 after falling more than 1% the previous trading session.

Wednesday’s CPI was largely in line with expectations and investors anticipate no change in course for the Federal Reserve’s interest rate policy.
