Wilmington- Today, President Joe Biden and Vice President Harris announced that the Biden-Harris 2024 campaign will be headquartered in Wilmington, Delaware. President Biden’s family moved to Delaware from Scranton, Pennsylvania when he was 10 years old. He earned his bachelor’s degree from University of Delaware and represented the state for 36 years in the United States Senate, having been elected at age 29 as one of the youngest senators in United States history.

He is the first person in American history from the state of Delaware to be elected President of the United States.

“My family’s values, my eternal optimism and my unwavering belief in the American middle class as our nation’s backbone comes from my home – from Delaware,” said President Joe Biden. “That’s why there is no better place for our reelection campaign to have its headquarters. This election will be about standing up for those values. Vice President Harris and I are proud for our campaign team to call Wilmington home while we all fight to finish the job for the American people.”

During the 2020 campaign, Biden for President was headquartered in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Dr. Jill Biden grew up in Willow Grove, a suburb of Philadelphia, and President Biden established the Penn Biden Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement at the University of Pennsylvania.

“We’re honored that Delaware’s own President Biden has decided to locate his campaign headquarters in Wilmington,” said Delaware Governor John Carney. “Our state’s largest city has so much to offer—from award-winning restaurants to new start-up businesses to beautiful parks and walking trails—and we look forward to welcoming the President’s team to Wilmington. Delaware has always had Joe’s back – and he’s always had ours. We’re ready to help reelect President Biden for his second term.”

“I can’t think of a better place to headquarter Joe Biden’s reelection campaign than our hometown of Wilmington,” said Senator Chris Coons. “Our state is a great place to tell the story of the Biden presidency, whether that’s highlighting the investments of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and the Inflation Reduction Act, showcasing a growing, resilient economy, tackling issues of housing, education and opportunity, or advancing the fight to restore the soul of our nation. Delaware is a state of neighbors who work together to solve problems, and I’m excited to showcase our city and state as our president makes his case to the American people.”

“As the former Governor of Delaware, I’m laser-focused on creating a nurturing environment for job growth in the First State, which is why I’m thrilled to see the President choose Wilmington as his campaign headquarters,” said Senator Tom Carper. “Throughout my years working alongside Joe, I have witnessed his tireless dedication to Delaware and this country. It was then-Senator Biden who first encouraged me to run for Senate, and now I’m excited to stand by his side during his reelection campaign. We’ve made a lot of progress together over the past few years when it comes to strengthening our economy, combating climate change, investing in our infrastructure and supporting families, but we’re not done yet. Now it’s time to finish the job, and I’m proud that my hometown will play a major role in that effort.”

“Joe Biden has called Delaware his home for nearly his entire life, and now I’m thrilled that his reelection campaign will also call Delaware home,” said Congresswoman Lisa Blunt Rochester. “It’s no secret how connected the President is to our small state of neighbors, and perhaps more than any other President in recent memory, he’s remained connected to his community and the middle-class families he grew up with. Delaware is where the President grew to understand that we build the economy from the middle out and bottom up, not the top down. I know what a boost it will be for our entire community to have the President’s reelection efforts headquartered in Wilmington. I can’t wait for the rest of the world to watch our little state do big things as we work to get Joe Biden and Kamala Harris reelected so they can finish the job for the American people.”

“We are truly gratified that Wilmington—Joe Biden’s hometown—will serve as headquarters for his reelection,” said Wilmington Mayor Mike Purzycki. “Joe has remained true to the ideals of leadership, fortitude and compassion that have always endeared him to the people of our city and our state, and now to the nation and the world. We are proud of Joe and proud to support the President and his entire reelection team. We also welcome the media and the world to Wilmington, a city where everyone is respected and appreciated.”
