Congressmember Judy Chu, Assemblymember Ed Chau, and former Assemblymember Mike Eng Endorse Mike Fong for California State Assembly District 49
The trio of endorsements are from the last three Assemblymembers for the 49th Assembly District, representing 20 years of district leadership.
Alhambra, CA – Today, Los Angeles Community College District Trustee and longtime community leader Mike Fong announced three historic endorsements for his campaign: Congresswoman Judy Chu, Assemblymember Ed Chau, and former Assemblymember Mike Eng.Congresswoman Judy Chu represented the 49th district in the State Assembly from 2001-2006, and currently represents California’s 27th district in the United States House of Representatives, which encompasses 85% of the 49th assembly district.
Former Assemblymember Mike Eng represented the 49th assembly district from 2006-2012, and currently serves on the California Unemployment Insurance Appeals Board. Assemblymember Ed Chau has represented the 49th district since 2012, and previously served as a trustee of the Montebello Unified School District from 2000-2012. Mike Fong is running to succeed Assemblymember Ed Chau in the event that he does not seek re-election.

The 49th Assembly District includes the cities of Alhambra, Arcadia, Monterey Park, Rosemead, San Gabriel, San Marino, Temple City and portions of El Monte, Montebello, and South El Monte.
ABOUT MIKE FONG
As an elected trustee on the board of America’s largest community college district, Mike Fong works to increase student access to higher education, expand workforce training, and improve the quality of educational opportunities available at Los Angeles’s nine Community Colleges including East Los Angeles College in the City of Monterey Park. Professionally, Fong serves as Director of Policy and Government Relations for the City of Los Angeles Department of Neighborhood Empowerment. He previously served as the East Area Director for Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.
Fong serves as a Commissioner for the City of Alhambra Transportation Commission. In addition, Fong also serves on the board of Goodwill Southern California and on the advisory board for LA’s BEST After School Enrichment Program. His long record of community service also includes having served as chair of the PBS Southern California Asian Pacific Islander Community Council, a member of the White Memorial Medical Center Community Leadership Council, and chair of the California Democratic Party Asian Pacific Islander Caucus, and as president of the Asian Pacific Alumni of UCLA.

A lifelong L.A. County resident, Fong holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychobiology from the University of California, Los Angeles, and a Master of Public Administration from California State University at Northridge.
