Mayor Garcetti Signs NO-FAULT Eviction Moratorium Ordinance

LOS ANGELES
 — Mayor Eric Garcetti signed a new citywide ordinance Tuesday that brings a temporary halt to no-fault renter evictions. The emergency measure seeks to protect Angelenos from unjust evictions and keep families in their homes before the statewide rental cap, Assembly Bill 1482, goes into effect on January 1, 2020. The ordinance, which was authored by Councilmembers Mitch O’Farrell and Curren Price, passed with a unanimous vote of the City Council, with the support of Council President Herb Wesson and Councilmember Nury Martinez.

“Our city is experiencing a housing crisis, and we should be using every available tool to keep people in their homes, and runaway rents in check,” said Mayor Garcetti. “This ordinance is an important measure that will prevent evictions before the new state law takes effect, and I am proud to be able to sign it into law today.” (By Mayor Office )
