The 10th Global Chinese Language Media Forum Kicks off in Hebei

Shi Jia Zhuang –The 10th Global Chinese Language Media Forum, hosted by the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council of China, Hebei Province and China News Agency, kicked off in Shijiazhuang, Hebei Province, China on October 12.

More than 400 Chinese media executives from 61 countries and regions and major news organization leaders in China participated in the forum.

The opening ceremony was presided over by Tan Tianxing, deputy director of the Central United Front Work Department.

Xu Yueyue, vice chairwoman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, Xu Yousheng, deputy director of the Central United Front Work Department, director of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council, Wang Dongfeng, secretary of the Hebei Provincial Party Committee, and Guo Weimin, deputy director of the State Council Information Office, attended the ceremony and delivered remarks.

“The Chinese media actively introduce the world to a prosperous, stable and peaceful China, and have made important contributions in shaping China’s image, promoting Chinese culture, and boosting Sino-foreign exchanges,” said Shen Yueyue.  “We hope the Chinese media will use the advantages of China and foreign countries to explain the Chinese story from the historical perspective, the realistic perspective and the future perspective, and contribute to the exchange, and cooperation between the world and China.”

Guo Weimin said that the Information Office of the State Council of China is committed to carrying out exchanges and cooperation with governments and news media, introducing the world to China, and explaining China to the world.

“The Office will continue to strengthen communication with overseas Chinese media, make interviews and reports in China more convenient, provide authoritative information for understanding China’s major policies, and build a communication platform for media exchange and cooperation”, Guo added.

Zhang Xinxin, president of China News Agency, delivered a keynote speech entitled “Financing the World, Witnessing the Times – Chinese Media and Chinese Stories”.

It is learned that the two-day forum also includes “transformation for survival, integration and change” media discussion, a themed discussion on the preparations for the China Winter Olympics, and an introduction of the provincial capital of Hebei, “focus on Xiong’an, and a media promotion event on the coordinated development of Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei.

Overseas Chinese media represented at the forum include news outlets from the United States, Canada, Australia, the Netherlands, Venezuela, Russia, Hungary, and the United Arab Emirates.

According to the participants, in addition to a deeper understanding of China’s national conditions and policies, the forum provided them with opportunities to interact with Chinese media from other regions, and explore how to expand media exchanges and cooperation around the world.
