Los Angeles — Mayor Garcetti today joined students and climate activists at John Marshall High School to announce the formation of the Mayor’s Youth Council on Climate Action, a collection of 17 high school and college students who will help drive the City’s strategy and policies to confront the climate crisis.
The Mayor also spoke to students on the steps of City Hall — as Angelenos joined young people around the world in taking to the streets and demanding that governments listen to scientists, cut back emissions, invest in clean energy, and expand green jobs.
Drawn from LAUSD, the L.A. Community College District, and local universities, the Mayor’s youth council will meet on a monthly basis to develop plans and objectives for the coming year, influence decisions and raise awareness around climate action, encourage fellow young Angelenos to get involved, and ultimately kick off a coordinated campaign with the Mayor’s Office to address climate change.
Members of the council will be announced ahead of the first meeting next Friday, September 27.
