Los Angeles — Councilmember David Ryu joined the City of Los Angeles Bureau of Sanitation to install the first of five Ecube bins, solar-powered trash compacting bins that are more efficient and sustainable than traditional bins on March 27th. The new trash bins are a part of Councilmember Ryu’s commitment to improving quality of life and beautifying streets across Council District Four.
“Keeping our streets clean and Council District Four beautiful has been a priority for me since day one,” Councilmember Ryu said. “With innovative, efficient and cost-saving technology like Ecube, it’s possible.”
Ecube bins are “smart” – they use mobile technology to collect information in real-time and communicate with the Bureau of Sanitation when a bin is full, so the Bureau can more efficiently replenish public waste bins.
“Ecube Labs’ technology will increase LA Sanitation’s waste collection efficiency tremendously, as one CleanCUBE is just as effective as six traditional trash receptacles that are already out in the City of Los Angeles,” said Susana Lee from Ecube. “Additionally, with the use of the CleanCAP the city will know when the bins are full in order to eliminate any overflowing trash cans.”

Five bins are being installed across Council District Four, with one on Wilshire in Mid-City, one on Sunset in Hollywood, and three along Ventura Boulevard in Sherman Oaks. 100 CleanCAP Sensors are being installed in Council Districts Four, Six and Seven. With success, future bins may be added. All five bins should be operational this week.
