Los Angeles, CA—Zhang Ping, the new Chinese Consul General in Los Angeles, was officially introduced in a meeting with some Chinese community leaders in southern California.
Zhang, a career diplomat, has been servicing with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China for over three decades, including a couple of overseas assignment. Prior to his current post, he was China’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Fiji.
“Though there are various issues, China-U.S. relations have reached an unprecedented level in terms of scope and depth,” said Zhang, who himself happens to be an expert on China’s diplomacy towards the United States thanks to his experience as a counselor and ministerial counselor in the Chinese embassy in Washington, D.C.
Zhang added, the Chinese Consulate General is dedicated to a stable and healthy relationship between China and the United States, and aims to strengthen economic, trade, and people-to-people exchanges, and promote sub-national cooperation.
Zhang called upon the local Chinese community to voice support for U.S.-China relations, and continue their efforts in people-to-people diplomacy.
In today’s meeting Zhang also introduced the recently concluded 19th National Congress of the Chinese Communist Party, and Chinese president Xi Jinping’s vision for the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
Deputy Consul General Sun Lushan, Zhuang Zhizhe, Dai Shuangming, and representatives from more than 20 Chinese community organizations attended the meeting.
