Los Angeles–Is the globalization coming to an end or entering a new era? Is trade a zero sum game or a normal economic tool useful for all traders? All these questions seem to be unavoidable as Trump administration is reshaping the trade policy of the United States. Silk Road American Forum, which opens today in downtown Los Angeles, aims to find answers and solutions.
The purpose of the forum is to explore the history of maritime Silk Road across the Pacific, which can be dated back to several centuries, analyze trade status and prospect in Asia and the Pacific region, and seek to address challenges posed by globalization, and promote people-to-people exchanges, according to Jennifer Liu and Jim MacLellan, Co-Chairs of the forum’s executive committee.
The two-day event, composed of a plenary session and several panel discussions, draws approximately 200 government officials, business leaders and academic elites from the United States, China, Canada and Panama.
The forum is co-organized by Port of Los Angeles Trade Connect, KJC International, MEBO International, NIHAO LatAm Group Panama and Royal Business Bank, in collaboration with CBD Bio Tech, Zhongguancun Belt & Road Industrial Promotion Association, Greenland Holdings (USA), China Southern Airlines, American Airlines, Nova Lifestyle, and American Chinese National Chamber of Commerce.
Among the speakers and panelists are Sun Lushan, Acting Consul General of China in Los Angeles, John Chiang, State Treasurer of California, Raquel Alfaro, Consul General of Panama in Los Angeles, Terri Batch, Senior International Trade Specialist of the Department of Commerce, Kevin Klowden, Executive Director of the Milken Institute’s California Center, Dan Caro, Senior Advisor on Infrastructure for Governor Brown, Kevei Xu, CEO of MEBO International, Liu Haiyan, Commercial Consul of the Chinese Consulate General, Brian Peck, Director of USC’s Center for Transnational Law & Business, Clayton Dube, Head of USC U.S.-China Institute, and Fernando Cordero, Secretary of General Administration of Panama’s Colon Free Trade Zone.
Innovative Brand Expo is concurrently being held with the forum at downtown Marriott. Several enterprises will be honored with Golden Angel innovation award.
