Homicide detectives were investigating the “horrific” deaths of two adults and a child whose bodies were found at a Santa Barbara-area home, authorities said Thursday.

Deputies responded to the 4600 block of Greenhill Way about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday after receiving a call to perform a welfare check on the residents, the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office stated.

Inside the home, deputies found the bodies of 57-year-old Dr. Weidong Henry Han, his wife, 29-year old Huijie Yu, who was known as Jennie, and their 5-year-old daughter Emily Han, a kindergartner at Foothill Elementary School, according to a post on the agency’s Facebook page.

The cause of manner of death was not revealed, but early indications were that this was not a random attack, the Sheriff’s Office said.

“Sheriff’s detectives are actively investigating this case and are working around the clock to determine who is responsible for this horrific crime,” the Facebook post stated.

The home is located in an unincorporated area of the county between Santa Barbara and Goleta, in the hills above the 101 Freeway.

No further information was available.

Anyone with information regarding the case was asked to call the Sheriff’s Anonymous Tip-Line at 805-681-4171.
