Washington, DC – U.S. Representative Young Kim (CA-39) released the following statement after being selected to serve on the House Committee on Foreign Affairs:
“I am thrilled to be able to bring my unique perspective as an immigrant and foreign policy experience to the highly respected House Foreign Affairs Committee. The 39th District is one of the most diverse in the nation, and from trade to our key relationships with allies in Asia and Central America, policies made in the Foreign Affairs Committee will directly impact many in our community. I look forward to being a staunch advocate for my district on this important committee.
“As an immigrant from South Korea now living my American dream, I want to ensure that future generations can achieve their dream as well. This requires that our nation remains a well-respected leader on the world stage, works with fellow freedom-loving countries to promote democracy, and holds our adversaries accountable.
“In today’s connected world and this pivotal moment in our nation’s history during the COVID-19 pandemic, foreign relations are more important than ever, and the House Foreign Affairs Committee will be at the center of these policies. I look forward to working with my colleagues to deliver results for my constituents and advance policies that benefit the United States across the globe,” said Kim.

Young Kim to the House Foreign Affairs Committee,” stated House Foreign Affairs Committee Lead Republican Michael McCaul. “Young has great experience in foreign policy, which includes working on trade agreements, being the interlocutor for the United States-Republic of Korea Interparliamentary Exchange, and advocating on North Korean human rights and Vietnamese human rights issues. She will be an important voice on our committee and I look forward to working closely with her to advance U.S. interests around the world.”
The Steering Committee has recommended Rep. Kim for this committee, and it is expected to go before full conference for ratification soon. Additional committee assignments for Rep. Kim to be announced.
