Young American’s Vision Brings International Youth Leadership Platform to Malaysia.
BANGI, 18 July 2026 — A simple idea from a young leader has grown into an international collaboration connecting the United States and Malaysia.
Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), through its Institute of Visual Informatics (IVI), together with KJ Institute (USA) and ROTHS Investment Bank, officially launched the UKM Global Impact Challenge 2026, a platform designed to encourage Malaysian university students to transform innovative ideas into meaningful solutions for society.

The initiative was officially unveiled during the UKM Global Impact Dialogue 2026, attended by university leaders, industry representatives, students and international guests.
One Youth Leader’s Vision
The idea behind the UKM Global Impact Challenge originated from Mr. Louie Liu, Founder of the Better Health, Better Lives initiative.
After receiving the KJ Institute Youth Leadership Award in the United States, Louie believed that Malaysian students deserved the same opportunity to be recognised on an international platform.
Rather than keeping the recognition to himself, he approached KJ Institute with the vision of bringing its youth leadership programme to Malaysia. He subsequently introduced ROTHS Investment Bank to support the initiative, resulting in the sponsorship of the RM2,000 UKM Global Impact Challenge Champion’s Scholarship and the opportunity for future winners to be considered for the prestigious KJ Institute International Youth Leadership Award.
What began as a personal vision has now become a collaborative platform linking academia, industry and international leadership development.

From Knowledge to Real-World Impact
The UKM Global Impact Challenge encourages university students to develop practical solutions addressing real-world issues in areas such as healthcare, sustainability, education, artificial intelligence, community development and social innovation.
Rather than focusing solely on academic achievement, the programme challenges participants to create ideas capable of delivering measurable impact to society.
During the launch ceremony, representatives from UKM, KJ Institute and ROTHS Investment Bank reaffirmed their shared commitment to nurturing future leaders equipped with both knowledge and purpose.
Beyond a Competition
The UKM Global Impact Challenge is envisioned as an annual flagship programme that continues to grow in scale and international reach.
Future editions will expand collaborations between universities, industry leaders and international organisations while providing Malaysian students with greater exposure to global leadership opportunities.
The organisers also announced plans to develop a Global Leadership Podcast Series, featuring distinguished leaders, entrepreneurs, academics and innovators from Malaysia and around the world. The series aims to inspire young people, promote leadership, innovation and cross-border collaboration, while further strengthening Malaysia’s position as a regional knowledge hub.
UNE News Establishes Its Second Asian Office in Malaysia
As part of the growing collaboration, UNE News Express (USA) has established its second office in Asia in Malaysia, following Korea, marking a significant milestone in its regional expansion strategy.
The Malaysian office will serve as the regional media and communications hub, supporting leadership interviews, executive podcasts, international news coverage and cross-border knowledge exchange throughout Southeast Asia.
The expansion reflects growing confidence in Malaysia’s role as a strategic gateway connecting the United States, China and ASEAN through education, leadership and innovation.
Building a Regional Knowledge Ecosystem
The UKM Global Impact Challenge forms the foundation of a broader long-term ecosystem that brings together media, leadership development, artificial intelligence and higher education. Under this vision, UNE News will drive global awareness through news coverage and leadership podcasts; KJ Institute will lead executive education, youth leadership and international partnerships; UKM and its industry partners will provide AI-powered digital learning infrastructure through its iLMS platform besides contributing to academic excellence and research collaboration. Together, these organisations aim to position Malaysia as a regional hub connecting the United States, China and ASEAN through knowledge, innovation and leadership.
Looking Ahead
The organisers hope that the UKM Global Impact Challenge will become a signature annual programme, inspiring generations of Malaysian students to think globally, lead with purpose and create meaningful impact within their communities.
More importantly, they believe the initiative demonstrates how one young person’s vision, when supported by academia and industry, can evolve into a platform that creates opportunities for thousands of future leaders.
