The new bureau represents a key milestone in UNE’s Southern California expansion strategy. It strengthens the platform’s local content production capabilities while enabling deeper engagement with local communities, marking an important upgrade of UNE’s evolving digital media platform.

Building Regional Capacity in San Diego

Founded in January 2016 and headquartered in Los Angeles, UNE News Express has developed a strong regional presence across Los Angeles County, Orange County, and San Bernardino County over the past decade.

The establishment of the San Diego Bureau completes UNE’s three-point strategic presence across Southern California’s core metropolitan areas.

San Diego is home to thriving sectors including technology, biotechnology, cross-border trade, and diverse multicultural communities. The new bureau will focus on local coverage in business development, community affairs, and industrial innovation while strengthening bilingual and multilingual reporting to enhance regional information integration.

Tony Yen, President and Partner of the San Diego Bureau, is a successful entrepreneur and community leader with deep experience in the local business sector. His multilingual communication skills and strong connections within the region will help UNE build more effective information bridges among Chinese, Vietnamese, broader Asian communities, and mainstream society.

UNE News Express founder  Jennifer Liu  described the launch as a key initiative in the company’s second-decade strategic plan. “Our experience over more than 20 years in journalism has shown that media organizations must deeply engage with community structures, participate in public affairs, and build long-term partnerships in order to establish lasting credibility,” Liu said.

“The San Diego bureau will continue this approach by strengthening local reporting capacity and expanding collaborative networks.”

She also emphasized that UNE will continue improving its digital distribution capabilities while maintaining strong journalistic standards and increasing cross-platform publishing efficiency through multilingual content systems.

Tony Yen : “ The San Diego bureau will focus on local needs .”

Tony Yen added: “Media plays a vital role in integrating information and facilitating public communication within communities. The San Diego bureau will focus on local needs and help create stronger information connections among diverse groups, better serving both community members and businesses.”

Platform Upgrade: From Community Media to a Digital Collaborative Network

The launch of the San Diego bureau represents not simply geographic expansion but part of a broader platform upgrade strategy for UNE. The company’s evolving media ecosystem is currently focused on three areas:

1. Regional Node Collaboration

Through content-sharing mechanisms between headquarters and regional bureaus, UNE aims to enable coordinated reporting, joint editorial planning, and collaborative branding to improve regional communication efficiency.

2. AI-Assisted Multilingual Production

UNE is implementing artificial intelligence tools to support writing, translation, and video production workflows. These technologies aim to improve production efficiency and enhance cross-language communication.

UNE has also introduced an AI-driven news discovery platform:

3. Integration of Content and Industry

Beyond traditional reporting, UNE is expanding collaboration with businesses, chambers of commerce, and nonprofit organizations. This approach allows the platform to contribute not only to information dissemination but also to broader industry support and community services.

Seoul Collaboration: Expanding International Partnerships

While strengthening its Southern California presence, UNE has also pursued international collaboration. In November 2025, UNE partnered with Global Strategy & Intelligence Studies (GSIS) at Hanyang University in Seoul to launch a research collaboration focused on AI-driven multimedia production.

The initiative also led to the establishment of UNE Asia Bureau in Seoul, the organization’s first overseas office.

The Seoul collaboration focuses on academic research and experimental media workflows using artificial intelligence, providing technological and research support for UNE’s multilingual digital production system. Together with the San Diego bureau’s local operations, the initiative forms a “local engagement + international collaboration” dual-track structure.

Entering the Second Decade

With San Diego serving as a new regional hub, UNE News Express is evolving from a traditional community news organization into a multi-city, multilingual, AI-assisted digital content platform.

Looking ahead, UNE plans to further optimize its regional collaboration model, expand its network of media nodes, and improve digital distribution efficiency while maintaining high standards of professional journalism.

UNE  Entering the Second Decade

The launch of the San Diego Bureau marks a significant milestone in UNE’s second decade—combining local engagement with technological innovation to build a more dynamic and interconnected new media network.
