Family-Friendly Haunts and Happenings Come to the Natural History Museum in Exposition Park This Fall

The events kick off on September 13 and continue through November 30

LOS ANGELES- The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County (NHM) in Exposition Park is launching a variety of seasonal frightful and delightful offerings for all age groups.

NHM’s annual Spider Pavilion will bring hundreds of our arachnid friends out to play for the fall. This is an unrivaled opportunity to get up close and personal with the orb weavers and other web developers that help provide the best natural pest control on the planet. Plus, you’ll be able to peer into the habitats of some eight-legged legends, like tarantulas, wolf spiders and jumping spiders.

Due to Spider Pavilion’s popularity, timed tickets are required. Tickets are free for Members and on sale now. For more information, visit nhm.org/spiders.

NHM will play host to the annual Members-only Halloween costume party known as Haunted Museum. The premium family-friendly event is sticking to an insect theme this year and will feature an elaborate scavenger hunt, dancefloor, food trucks and more. Help the always-dedicated citizens of Autumn Valley solve a spooky mystery and meet some of NHM’s top researchers and scientists at the one-of-a-kind annual event.

The event is exclusive for Members and free for Discoverer, Naturalist, Explorer and Fellow level Members. Reservations are mandatory. For more information, visit nhm.org/hauntedmuseum.

This fall, NHM will also have the second half of the Fierce! Catio Lounge, the popular play and adoption events for Members and guests in conjunction with Fierce! The Story of Cats. These timed ticketed events give Members and guests the purrfect opportunity to interact, play, and adopt a furever friend. NHM has partnered with local rescue organizations such as Annenberg PetSpace, Los Angeles County Animal Care & Control, Los Angeles Animal Services, and Stray Cat Alliance to make all cats at the Museum adoptable without fees.

Tickets for a 15-minute session are only available onsite at NHM on a first-come, first-served basis, and adoption is not required to participate. For more information, visit nhm.org/calendar/cat-lounge.

Also tying in to Fierce! at NHM this fall is the return of the B Movies and Bad Science series, with a seasonal theme of “Cool Cats and Bad Kitties.” The film and discussion series will now take place in the new Commons Theater for three nights of quirky and creepy cat movies and the curiously creative science behind them. On three Thursday evenings in October, NHM will show classic cat-themed movies The Shadow of the Cat(1961), A Bucket of Blood (1959) and The Tomb of Ligeia (1964).

Tickets for B Movies and Bad Science are limited and will be available on NHM.org on September 25.

And if you’re still looking for more cat content, we’ve got teasers for our new online gallery of the cutest black kittens you’ve ever seen.
