City of Irvine Seeks Input on Harvard Safety Improvements Project

The community is invited to share feedback at a workshop on September 23.

IRVINE, Calif. (September 11, 2025): The City of Irvine, in partnership with the City of Tustin, is leading a project to enhance safety, accessibility, and mobility along Harvard Avenue between Irvine Center Drive and Walnut Avenue.

Located in a residential area near parks and trail systems, the Harvard Safety Improvements Project will improve traffic circulation and expand transportation options for cyclists and pedestrians while creating safer streets for all users.

A key component of the project is community input. Residents are invited to a workshop Tuesday, September 23, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Harvard Community Center to review alternative design concepts and share feedback that will guide the future of Harvard Avenue.

The City of Irvine continues to invest in roadway safety and mobility to enhance community livability and provide convenient access to safe, reliable transportation. This section of Harvard was identified in the City’s 2022 Local Roadway Safety Plan as a high-priority corridor for upgrades.

Key project benefits include:

  • Traffic calming measures to reduce speeding and enhance safety.
  • Upgraded pedestrian infrastructure, including new sidewalks and improved crosswalks.
  • New bike lanes to support safe, active transportation.
  • Railroad crossing improvements for smoother pedestrian and vehicle flow.
  • Expanded trail connections to promote recreation and non-motorized travel.

The Harvard Safety Improvements Project will roll out in phases, with construction expected to begin in 2027.
