Supervisor Kathryn Barger Hosts 27th Annual Tribute to Veterans and Military Families in Arcadia
Arcadia, Calif. — In a heartfelt ceremony honoring courage, service, and sacrifice, Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger hosted the 27th Annual Tribute to Veterans and Military Families on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at Arcadia County Park. Held annually on Memorial Day weekend, the event brought together community members, veterans, first responders, and civic leaders under the theme of “Bravery and Resiliency.”

The tribute recognized the heroic efforts of veterans and first responders, including those from the Los Angeles County Fire Department and Sheriff’s Department who served during the Eaton Fire and also served in the U.S. military. Supervisor Barger emphasized the importance of community solidarity in honoring those who have defended the nation’s freedom.

“It is an immense honor to host this tribute in Arcadia,” said Supervisor Barger. “This tradition brings us together as a community to recognize and remember the ultimate sacrifices made by our fallen heroes — and to offer comfort to the families they left behind, especially our Gold Star Families. Their loved ones served with honor and left a legacy of dignity.”

The event featured a formal tribute ceremony, a veteran resource fair, interactive booths offering services and job interviews, equipment displays, food trucks, live music, and activities for families. A poignant “Field of Honor” was displayed in tribute to fallen service members.

Dignitaries in attendance included U.S. Congresswoman Judy Chu, California State Senator Sasha Perez, Assemblymember Mike Fong, a representative of Governor Gavin Newsom, Arcadia Mayor April Verlato, Vice Mayor Eileen Wang, Councilmembers Paul Cheng, Bob Chen, and David Fu. Director of the County Department of Military and Veterans Affairs James Zenner also addressed the crowd. The invocation was led by Army Chaplain Major Brenda Threatt.

Supervisor Barger reiterated the County’s year-round commitment to serving veterans and military families:
“One day is never enough to express our gratitude to veterans. That’s why I continuously advocate for their needs throughout the year — through legislation, policy, and community action. With over 10 million residents in our County, we have a duty to lead with compassion and commitment.”

Barger extended special thanks to the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs and its director James Zenner for their ongoing partnership and dedication to supporting those who served.
