Representative Dave Min Announces $371,000 Grant for Lung Disease Research

Washington, DC — Today, Representative Dave Min (CA-47) announced that Makani Science, an Irvine based medical device company, will receive a $371,021 grant from the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute to perform lung disease research. Makani Science is on the cutting edge of medical device production, working to develop the world’s first continuous respiration monitor. This grant will allow them to continue to create small, noninvasive, wearable respiration monitors that could save lives in California and beyond.
“Orange County is home to some of the brightest minds working on cutting edge biomedical research,” said Rep. Min. “Amidst the Trump administration’s cuts to federal grant programs, I’m proud to support the research that will keep our families and our community healthy.”
“This grant has the potential to improve the lives of the most vulnerable newborns,” said Greg Buchert, MD, MPH, and CEO of Makani Science. “The outcome of the interventions funded by this grant has the potential to revolutionize care for premature infants throughout the world.”
