Los Angeles Hosts Pop-Up Event for A Minecraft Movie – Perfect for Kids
By Maggie Ma
Los Angeles — A special Pop-Up event for A Minecraft Movie, based on the popular Minecraft game, was held at the Century City Westfield Mall in Los Angeles.
The event, designed for children, features fun and interactive activities, including photo opportunities with cute game character models, game tutorials, arts and crafts, paper cutting, Lego building, and various other hands-on games.
The event, which started on March 30th, has been a big hit and will be held again on April 4th, 5th, and 6th to coincide with the movie’s release. This exciting experience is perfect for families and young fans of the game.

Elementary school students and parents in the U.S. are certainly familiar with the game Minecraft. Known as “我的世界” (My World) in Chinese, it is a video game developed by Microsoft. In the game, players interact with blocks and creatures within a 3D world, exploring its fascinating landscapes, fighting against evil forces to survive, and using their creativity to build various structures and weapons.

Because Minecraft is easy to play and helps young students learn to use tablets, while also developing their intellect and creativity, it has been widely recommended by U.S. elementary schools. Many schools have even introduced related courses and challenges for students. As a result, the game has become well-known across the country and is often considered a “beginner game” for elementary students. Now, with its adaptation into a movie, the primary audience is children and their parents.

Warner Bros., the company that previously adapted Lego and Barbie toys into movies, has now turned Minecraft into a live-action and 3D animated film, offering humans the chance to step into the game world for an epic adventure. The movie stars comedian Jack Black as Steve, a seasoned architect who stumbles upon the mysterious world of Minecraft. In this world, Steve can freely build structures and weapons and encounters strange, blocky creatures and plants. Using his imagination, Steve establishes his own kingdom and adopts a wolf as a pet.

However, Steve and the inhabitants of the world soon find themselves threatened by the villainous “Pig Gang.” During the chaos, four other humans accidentally enter the game world. These include orphaned siblings Natalie and Henry, as well as a “Garbage Man” gamer named Garrett Garrison (played by Jason Momoa) and zoologist Dawn (played by Danielle Brooks). Together, they will help Steve fight the evil forces, protect the game world, and figure out a way to return home.

The film also held its premiere and media screening event on the 30th, with most media outlets praising the movie’s humor and the design of its 3D animated characters. However, some critics felt that the story was rather simplistic and lacked depth. The target audience for the film is primarily elementary school students, with the aim of encouraging children to use their creativity. As such, it is more suited to younger audiences and their parents.
