LOS ANGELES– Los Angeles County Sheriffs’ Homicide Bureau Held a Press Conference to Ask for the Public’s Help for Information Regarding the Murder of Menghan Zhuang.

Today, a press conference was held to seek the public’s assistance for information regarding the murder of Menghan Zhuang also known as Emily King to identify a potential person of interest.

A motion authored by Supervisor Kathryn Barger for a $20,000 reward has been filed and will be up for approval by the Board of Supervisors during their February 18th meeting. If approved, the reward will take effect on February 13, 2025.

On Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at approximately 6:47pm Los Angeles County deputies from the Santa Clarita Station responded to a call to assist the fire department on a person unresponsive call at 21314 Nandina Lane, which is inside the Vista Condominium Complex in the city of Newhall.

Upon arrival, deputies found Menghan inside the apartment, suffering from several injuries to her upper body. Despite the efforts of Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel who were on the scene, and provided medical assistance, Menghan Zhuang tragically succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators conducted a thorough search for surveillance footage and witnesses. Investigators learned that Menghan had a male companion seen entering the victim’s apartment the night before, on February 3,2025 and then seen exiting from her second story bedroom window on the afternoon of the day she was discovered deceased.

The person of interest is described as a male in his 20’s, who appears
to be of Asian descent, dressed in a black long sleeve button up shirt, and black pants in the photograph obtained.

Menghan Zhuang was a dedicated loving daughter and sister, of Chinese National descent who was here on a Student Visa. She was a senior at Cal Art College in Valencia, where she was studying art.

Based on this investigation, investigators determined that it is clear this was not a random act of violence, and that Menghan somehow knew the person of interest. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department urges anyone with information regarding this case to come forward. Your assistance is crucial in bringing justice for Menghan Zhuang and her family.
