
IRVINE, – Councilmember Melinda Liu, the first Taiwan-born Chinese-American woman elected to serve on the Irvine City Council, was sworn in for a two-year term representing District 1 on Tuesday, December 10, 2024. In a swearing-in ceremony held at Irvine City Hall, attended by community leaders, city officials, and residents, Councilmember Liu took the oath of office, pledging her commitment to serving the vibrant and diverse community of Irvine.
“It is an incredible honor to join the Irvine City Council,” said Councilmember Liu. “I am deeply humbled by District 1 voters for trusting me to be the first councilmember to represent the neighborhoods I’ve had the privilege to call home for the last twenty years. To my volunteers, supporters, friends, and neighbors, I am so grateful for all the time, contributions, and efforts to help me in our grassroots campaign. Words cannot express my appreciation for everyone who’s helped us on this journey, and I will continue to work toward making Irvine a welcoming and safe community for all.”

As the councilmember representing Irvine’s District 1, Councilmember Liu emphasized her dedication to promoting public safety, advocating for senior services and childcare, and ensuring a healthy and safe environment for children to learn and play. “I will work closely with our dedicated public safety agencies, my colleagues on city council, and our outstanding city staff to serve all Irvine residents. Most importantly, I will listen to Irvine residents and represent your interests faithfully. I need your input to help us move Irvine forward and maintain our high quality of life. Together, we can make Irvine the envy of Orange County for our families and our children. We are one Irvine. Thank you.”
