Newport Beach Police Investigating Fatal Hit and Run Traffic Collision

NEWPORT BEACH- On Tuesday, July 16th, 2024 at approximately 9:39 PM, the NBPD Emergency Dispatch Center received a 911 call involving a traffic collision in the area of N/B Jamboree Road and Sea Vista Drive between a vehicle and adult pedestrian.

Information was provided indicating that the driver of a silver Toyota Camry left the scene northbound without stopping to render aid. NBPD Officers located the involved vehicle at the intersection of Jamboree Road and Santa Barbara Drive, where the solo driver was detained.

NBPD and NBFD provided life saving measures to the pedestrian involved, but he was ultimately declared deceased at the scene. The identification of the deceased subject will not be released pending identification by the Orange County Sheriff’s Department Coroner Division and notification to the next of kin. A Sigalert was issued, and all northbound lanes on Jamboree Road from Sea Vista Drive to Santa Barbara Drive were closed. All lanes of traffic were fully opened by 8:00 am this morning.

The driver, identified as Jesus A. Bartolo, a 30 year old male out of Santa Ana, CA was arrested for 20001(a) CVC – Felony Hit and Run.
