Asian American Senior Citizens Service Center Hosts Youth Empowerment Against Hate Program

SANTA ANA, Calif. — Asian American Senior Citizens Service Center(AASCSC)hosted its first Youth Empowerment Against Hate (YEAH) Program「Building Bridges: Understanding and Unity Workshop」 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., Saturday, February 24, 2024, at Santa Ana United Methodist Church.  This workshop was an endeavor to teach the youth students about hate-reporting, de-escalation techniques, and bystander intervention. With two youth performances from a spoken word artist and a violin and viola duo, the local youth students attended this free event.

AASCSC has announced today that it will host another Youth Empowerment Against Hate (YEAH) Program. Scheduled from June 10, 2024, to June 22, 2024, at the Asian American Senior Citizens Service Center, the YEAH Program aims to empower and educate youth about hate prevention and promote hate prevention through a final showcase. The event will offer a range of activities including lecture days, a mental health awareness panel, a community service project day, and a talent showcase. It is free for all high school students in the Orange County, CA community.

High school students will have the opportunity to engage in active, in-person learning, participate in community service projects, and showcase their talents through artistic and creative mediums such as spoken poetry, poster/PowerPoint presentations, artwork presentations, dance, and musical performances.

Participants will benefit from a “Stop the Hate” youth program, covering topics such as advocacy, bystander intervention, crime reporting, community and civic engagement, community responsibility, cultural inclusion, and mental health awareness. The final showcase, open to the public, will take place on June 22, 2024, in Santa Ana, CA.
