Man Dies After Being Struck by Train in Irvine

Irvine – The Irvine Police Department (IPD) is investigating the death of a 64-year-old male after he was struck by a train.

This morning, at 7:36 a.m., IPD officers and the Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) responded to the area of 170 Technology after a report of a pedestrian being struck by a northbound Metrolink train. The train engineer reported seeing the man waving at him as he stood by himself on the wood planks near the outside of the tracks. The engineer began to slow the locomotive while sounding the horn. He saw the man turn his back to the oncoming train in what appeared to be an attempt to walk away. The man was hit by the train and died at the scene.

Metrolink personnel responded to assist with the investigation. No other injuries were reported.

The identity of the decedent is not being released pending notification of next of kin. His last known address was Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
