Mayor Bass to Join Elected Leaders and LAHSA Leadership to Kick Off Annual Homeless Point-In-Time Count

LOS ANGELES – On Tuesday, January 24, Mayor Karen Bass will join elected officials and Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA) leadership to kick off the annual Point-In-Time count, which provides a snapshot of how many people are experiencing homelessness across the City and County. As LAHSA seeks more volunteers to help with the 8,000 shifts required for the count, Mayor Bass is calling on Angelenos to join in the effort.

“To make progress on homelessness, the size of our solutions must match the magnitude of the crisis – so it’s critical that we have an accurate understanding of the number of people living on our streets,” said Mayor Bass. “This year’s count is essential to our planning for the work ahead, so I encourage volunteers to register to participate at TheyCountWillYou.org.”

The 2023 Greater Los Angeles Homeless Count will begin on Tuesday, January 24, in the San Fernando and San Gabriel valleys. On January 25, volunteers will count in East and West Los Angeles, and on January 26, the count will conclude in Metro Los Angeles, the Antelope Valley, and South Los Angeles.

The count involves volunteers in small groups counting the number of individuals who are unsheltered or living in tents, vehicles, and make-shift shelters across the 4,000 square miles of Los Angeles County. For the first time, volunteers will use an app to keep track of their progress.
