Senator Dave Min Named New Chair of Senate Natural Resources and Water Committee

SACRAMENTO, CA — Senate President Pro Tempore Toni Atkins (D-San Diego) today announced that she has appointed Senator Dave Min (D-Irvine) to serve as the new Chair of the Senate Committee on Natural Resources and Water. A key policy committee, the Senate Natural Resources and Water Committee has jurisdiction over the state’s environmental stewardship, including protection of California’s public lands and coastline, oil and gas regulation, and preserving biodiversity.

“As the California Legislature kicks off the 2023-204 Legislative Session, I am honored to chair the Senate Natural Resources and Water Committee,” said Min. “We are the in the midst of a climate emergency that is threatening our basic way of life—increases in global warming are causing persistent wildfires, dramatic sea level rise, and stunning changes to our ecosystems that we are only beginning to understand. The Natural Resources and Water Committee is a critical body for legislation that can help us address and adapt to these changes. I am grateful to Senator President Pro Tempore Toni Atkins for entrusting me with this important appointment, and look forward to working closely alongside my colleagues on this Committee to ensure that California continues to lead the way on climate resiliency and environmental stewardship.”

The Committee has jurisdiction over legislation relating to conservation and management of public resources, fish and wildlife, regulation of oil, mining, geothermal development, wetlands and lakes, global atmospheric effects, ocean and bay pollution, coastal resources, forestry practices, recreation, parks and historical resources, and water supply management.

Min has also been appointed to the following committees for the 2023-24 Legislative Session:

  • Budget and Fiscal Review
  • Budget Subcommittee #1 on Education
  • Banking and Financial Institutions
