Ron Kim Elected Mayor of Saratoga Springs

KIM BECOMES FIRST AAPI MAYOR OF A CITY IN NEW YORK STATE 

SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY — On Tuesday, November 2nd, the voters of Saratoga Springs, New York elected Democrat Ron Kim as their next Mayor.  The longtime consumer protection attorney, conservation advocate, and former Commissioner of Public Safety defeated two opponents in this hotly contested race to become the first Asian-American Mayor of a city in New York State.

Addressing a crowd of cheering supporters in the ballroom of the Embassy Suites in Saratoga Springs, Ron dedicated his victory to his supporters.  “Tonight, Saratoga won,” Ron said, “because facts matter, truth matters, and democracy matters.”

Ron will join four fellow Democratic winners on Saratoga Springs’ new City Council.  Minita Sanghvi will be the new Commissioner of Finance, Jim Montagnino and Dillon Moran were elected Commissioner of Public Safety and Accounts, respectively, and County Supervisor Tara Gaston was re-elected to her seat.

Ron named a few of his priorities for his two-year term, where he’ll focus on police reform, public safety investments like a new EMS station, conserving green space, and securing state and federal funds for infrastructure improvements.  “I couldn’t be more grateful for the trust you’ve placed in me to lead our city forward and build a Saratoga that works for everyone,” Ron told Saratogians the morning after his election.  “Now, I’m excited to get to work for all of you.”

About Ron Kim: 

Ron Kim is a consumer attorney who was born and raised in New York’s Capital Region.  A resident of Saratoga Springs for nearly 30 years, Ron and his wife Jennie raised three kids in the city while he served residents on the zoning board and as a two-term Public Safety Commissioner.
