Washington, DC – U.S. Representative Young Kim (CA-39) continues to fight for small businesses across California’s 39th District and the nation to access much-needed relief during COVID-19.
During yesterday’s House Small Business Committee markup, Rep. Kim introduced two amendments, to direct $15 billion of unspent COVID-19 relief to help restaurants and to compel the Small Business Administration (SBA) to investigate fraudulent applications related to their COVID-19 Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDL). Both amendments were blocked by House Democrats in order to pursue their partisan reconciliation strategy.
“Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, more than 110,000 restaurants have closed, and 1.5 million jobs have been lost. Meanwhile, we continue to hear of scammers taking advantage of relief funding,” said Kim. “I am disappointed that my colleagues on the other side of the aisle do not feel the same sense of urgency to help our restaurants and ensure taxpayer dollars are being spent efficiently. Providing relief to our small businesses should not be a partisan issue. All successful efforts by Congress to provide COVID-19 relief have been bipartisan, and I hope we continue down that path. The only way we will get through the pandemic and safely reopen our communities is by working together.”
