Beverly Hills—the City of Beverly Hills welcomed the Year of Dog, Chinese lunar New Year, with a two-day Chinese arts show at the historical Saban Theatre on February 10-11.
Dozens of Chinese artists presented a collection of acrobatics, folk dances, folk music, and magic to residents of Beverly Hills and surrounding communities in Southern California in the splendid performance featuring “Happy Chinese New Year & Charming Beijing Tianjin Hebei”.
Concurrently held with the arts show is a wide range of exhibition of Chinese intangible cultural heritage recognized by UNESCO, and presentation of Chinese lunar New Year customs.
Beverly Hills, an affluent city and world-class tourist destination near Los Angeles, started to celebrate Chinese New Year in 2012 as the city welcomes increasing number of high-end Chinese tourists to its well-known attractions such as Rodeo Drive and luxury hotels.
Mayor Lili Bosse and other four members of the City Council all participated and expressed their full support for the annual cultural exchange event.
“This event plays a positive role in promoting China-U.S. cultural exchange and boosting the mutual understanding and friendship between the two peoples,” said Ambassador Zhang Ping, the Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Los Angeles.
The 7th Chinese New Year celebration was organized by Beverly Hills Convention & Visitors Bureau in partner with China International Culture Association and Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei Associations for Cultural Exchanges, with the support of Chinese Consulate General in Los Angeles.
