Nine Puppies Rescued by Irvine Police Department Available for Adoption on Wednesday

Irvine- Nine of 19 puppies rescued by the Irvine Police Department (IPD) Animal Services Unit as part of a January case will be made available for adoption Wednesday.

The animals were recovered when Megan Ann Hoechstetter, operating under the business name Pawlosophy, was taken into custody on felony and misdemeanor charges after she sold sick animals to unsuspecting customers. In all, the Irvine Police Department was made aware of 155 victims who obtained sick puppies from Hoechstetter.

Over the last two months, the animals have been cared for and nursed back to health by the Irvine Animal Care Center. The nine that will be made available on Wednesday have been medically cleared; five more are expected to be cleared on Friday.

Adoption procedures: To view photos of the puppies, go to cityofirvine.org/ipdpuppies. The webpage will give potential adopters the opportunity to view the available animals. All who wish to adopt must come to the Irvine Animal Care Center, 6443 Oak Canyon, on Wednesday, March 22 from noon to 1:30 p.m. to fill out adoption paperwork. The animals will not be available for public view at this time. A lottery for each animal will be held at 2 p.m. Potential adopters must be present at the time of the lottery.

The public should keep in mind that these animals were very ill and lived through a traumatic experience.

Anyone wishing to adopt one of the puppies should have extra time to devote to their care and socialization. Being selected in the lottery is not a guarantee of placement; IACC staff will determine the suitability of potential adopters.

For questions about the adoption process, call Animal Care Center Supervisor Jim Warren at 949-724-7162 or go to cityofirvine.org/ipdpuppies. For media inquiries, call IPD Public Information Officer Kim Mohr at 949-724-7112.
