LOS ANGELES – Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk (RR/CC) Dean C. Logan announced his department will help kick off a friendly competition between crosstown rivals USC and UCLA to assist both campuses in registering more students to vote.

The two universities will kick off a voter registration effort to see which can gather the most applications ahead of the deadline for the November 8th Presidential General Election.

“In football and basketball, our two schools may be longtime rivals. But when it comes to getting young people to vote, USC and UCLA are definitely on the same team,” said Dan Schnur, Director of USC’s Jesse M. Unruh Institute of Politics.

While maintaining his neutrality in the cross town collegiate rivalry, Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk, himself a UW Husky said, “The goal of this collaborative effort is designed to ensure all students, who are eligible, are registered and ready to make their mark on November 8th.”

Collectively the two universities hope to gather up to 17,000 new voter registrations applications. Both schools will promote this effort on social media with hashtags #VoteOn and #BruinsVOTE along with hosting on-campus activities.

“A voter registration competition between UCLA and USC is the ideal way to engage Bruins and Trojans with our country’s political process, as it increases excitement by invoking our mutual campus pride,” said Yara Hejazi, a BruinsVOTE! Director and Executive Director of Vote for Our Future.

The mission of the Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk is to serve Los Angeles County by providing essential records management and election services in a fair, accessible and transparent manner. For more information, visit lavote.net and follow us on Twitter@LACountyRRCC.
